Blove’s sauce is a rich seafood sauce loads with lots of spices and butter. Youtuber Blove, Bethany Gaskin, created this sauce, and I want to share my copycat recipe with you.
Gaskin originally got famous for doing Mukbang – a Korean phenomenon where someone makes a video of themself eating lots of food and talking to the audience.
In 2017, fans started noticing the sauce that Gaskin was eating. This sauce, which she named “Smackalicious,” skyrocketed to fame. Today, you can even buy Blove’s Sauce on Amazon — in both spicy and mild versions.
Since this Bloves sauce recipe is really easy to make at home, I tried to create it at home. I’ve used her seasoning mix of herbs and spices, but feel free to play around with the ingredients.
Pair it with seafood, fish, meat, or veggies – whatever will suit your own taste buds.
What is Bloves Sauce?
Bloves sauce is a sauce for a seafood boil – similar to what you can find in a seafood restaurant.
The base contains butter, chicken broth, garlic, onion, and some other flavorings like Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice.
It also has a seasoning mixture with chili powder, cayenne pepper, Old Bay seasoning, and other spices.
It’s also used as a dip by mukbangers and it kind of tastes like rich, oily pasta sauce.
Tips and Tricks for Making Bloves Sauce
Taste the Sauce Before Adding More Spices
Tasting the sauce before adding any optional ingredients is the only way you’ll know if it’s a good idea to add more seasoning.
In particular, taste it before adding extra spicy ingredients. It’s also a good idea, in general, to taste the sauce as you’re making it – this way you can adjust it as you go.
Heat the Spices
To bring out the natural flavor of the spices, heat them up. Doing so will boost their impact, so they’ll taste better.
However, ground spices can burn easily. When you use them in recipes like this one, try to “bloom” them, or cook them in oil: first make a paste with your spices and a liquid like water, vinegar, or wine. Heat some oil in a pan and add the paste. The liquid will sizzle away, and you’ll end up with just the spiced, flavorful oil.
Prepare the Spice Mixture Ahead
To save time when you’re cooking, mix up your spices ahead of time. Then, add them to the perishable ingredients when you’re ready to eat the sauce.

Don’t Add a Lot of Ginger
Ginger has a really strong taste – no need for a lot of it to flavor your Bloves sauce recipe.
Moreover, if you use fresh ginger root, the taste is even more powerful than the dry powder. Don’t add too much, and keep sampling the sauce as it cooks.
But ginger is very tasty, so try a little minced ginger if you’d like.
Fun Ways to Adapt Bloves Sauce
Change the Amount of Chili Powder
Chili powder is one of the ingredients that will change how spicy your delicious Bloves sauce recipe is. So if you like hot food, start with a spicy chili powder. If not, use a mild one.
Remember, you can always add more spice, but you can’t take it away.
Add a Sugar-Based Ingredient
Lots of people add something sweet to spicy sauces because the sugar helps counteract the heat. Adding white or brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, or even barbecue sauce to your Bloves sauce recipe will help the flavors balance well.
Only add about a tablespoon of sweetener to your sauce. Since this is a savory sauce, you don’t want it to be too sweet.
Add an Acid-Based Ingredient
Another way to balance out the heat is to add an acid to the Bloves sauce recipe. If the sauce tastes too spicy, try adding some additional lemon juice or vinegar.
The acid will also add an extra zing to your sauce.

When you cook seafood, you can substitute beer for the boiling water. In addition to the malty flavor that it lends to your shellfish, the sugars in the beer add richness. Also, the beer tenderizes the meat. It’s a win-win.
For this Bloves sauce recipe, you can substitute beer for some of the chicken stock. Just swap out ½ a cup of stock for ½ cup of your favorite brew.

- Make the Seasoning
Pour all the seasoning ingredients into a bowl. Use a whisk or fork to mix them together.
- Chop the Veggies
Add the minced garlic and onion to your blender or food processor. Use the pulse button to turn the veggies into a finely-minced paste.
- Melt the Butter
In your frying pan, add the 4 sticks of butter. Start melting them over medium-low heat, but slowly turn the temperature up to medium heat.
- Cook the Veggies
Once the butter has melted, add the blended garlic and onion paste to the pan. Cook it for about 30-60 seconds – and be careful because it can splatter!
When it’s done, you will really smell the garlic and onion scents. Also, the veggies will be translucent and soft.
- Add the Broth and Sauces
Carefully pour in the chicken stock. Add Worcestershire sauce and lemon juice.
And if you’d like to add the optional ingredients, now’s the time.
- Add the Seasoning
Pour in the seasoning mix and stir everything well. Turn down the temperature to low.
- Finish Cooking and Enjoy!
Keep cooking the sauce until you’ve boiled everything and it looks smooth and uniform. And make sure you stir the pot occasionally so the sauce doesn’t burn.
Then, take your Bloves sauce off the stove, and enjoy.
What to Serve with Bloves Sauce
This Bloves sauce recipe is flavorful and buttery. An advice: serve it with something simple.
Seafood Boils: Shrimp, Crab Legs, Lobster Tails
The classic option is seafood, and this is what Blovelife created it for. Specifically, it’s meant to be a delightful dipping sauce for things like shrimp, crab, and lobster.
People usually dip boiled seafood in it, but don’t let that stop you.
It also tastes great as a marinade when you bake fish in the oven. And you can even boil your seafood directly in it.
Vegetables: Cucumber and Pickles
In addition to seafood, Gaskin often dips veggies in her spicy sauce. For example, cucumbers and pickles are flavourful. And you could also use it on other veggies like boiled corn-on-the-cob or baked potatoes.
Meat and Pasta
As with seafood, this sauce pairs perfectly with the meat. Try marinating your next steak or chicken breast in it.And if you want to play around, try using it on pasta or rice to jazz up your dish.
How to Store Bloves Sauce
To keep your Bloves sauce fresh, put it in a sealed jar or container. Then keep it in the refrigerator. The ingredients in this Bloves sauce don’t spoil easily. You can keep easily your sauce in the fridge for about 2 weeks.
In fact, you can even keep your sauce in the pantry if you want.Butter and spices can last a really long time – even months – out of the fridge. So as long as your pantry is cool and dark, you can keep this Bloves sauce there.
To speed up your cooking process, prepare the seasoning mix ahead of time. Then, when you want to make the sauce, all you have to do is prep the fresh ingredients and put it all in a pot.
