For a bold and delicious dinner, try this . Named for the famous rapper, this burger tastes as good as it sounds! copycat Travis Scott burger
In September of 2020, McDonald’s introduced a new quarter pounder combo: the Travis Scott meal. It became so popular that people were blasting Scott’s music while ordering in the drive-through lane, and the franchises started running out of ingredients.
Luckily, you don’t have to head to a McDonald’s to eat this large, cheesy burger. You can make it right at home: just fry the beef patty, assemble the sandwich, and dig in.
It’s a great meal for beginners to make because the recipe is very straightforward. So, you can even get kids to help!
I love to make these burgers at summer backyard barbecues or other family events because they’re always a hit.
All About the Travis Scott Burger Ingredients
Bun
McDonald’s always uses sesame seed buns for their burgers. In general, this is the most common type of burger bun.
Sesame seeds are very versatile, and cooks use them in everything from hummus and falafel to Asian entrees to baked goods. These seeds have a nutty flavor which comes through even more when you toast them.
McDonald’s made their sesame seed burger buns even more popular when they released a commercial about them. The famous line goes “two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, on a sesame-seed bun.”
You can usually buy sesame seed burger buns at the grocery store, either in the packaged bread aisle or in the bakery section.
But you can also experiment with other types of buns. For instance, you can try whole wheat, sourdough, brioche, hard rolls, onion rolls, pretzel rolls, or ciabatta. Or, simply use your favorite hearty sliced bread.
Ground Beef
At the supermarket, you’ll see two different types of ground meat. One is “hamburger,” and the other is “ground beef.”
While neither can be more than 30% fat, “hamburger” manufacturers can add extra beef fat to their product. On the other hand, ground beef is pure meat.
My favorite fresh beef for burger patties is 80/20 ground chuck. This type of meat comes from the shoulder of the cow.
The 80/20 ratio means it’s made of 80% lean meat, while the other 20% is fat. This works really well in this recipe because it gives you a juicy, but not greasy, burger patty.
Applewood-Smoked Bacon
The smokiness of bacon comes from cooking the pork over different types of wood, and each type of wood gives bacon a different flavor. As well, the amount of time the bacon was cooked will affect whether it tastes strong or mild.
The most popular bacon wood is hickory because it has a perfect balance of sweetness and smokiness. And the second most popular wood is applewood because it’s a little sweet and also quite mild.
For these Travis Scott burgers, I think applewood-smoked bacon tastes the best because it won’t overpower the other ingredients.
Ketchup and Mustard
These are the quintessential burger condiments! The ground beef patty only uses salt and pepper for flavoring, so these two sauces are really important.
Ketchup is sweet and tangy, so it balances the saltiness of the meat and pickles. On the other hand, mustard is a little spicy, so it adds a kick of flavor.
Toppings
Cheese
For an extra-cheesy Travis Scott burger, I use 2 slices of American cheese. This cheese has a mild flavor and silky texture.
If you want to try other cheeses, I recommend Swiss, pepper jack, or cheddar cheese.
Veggies
McDonald’s serves their Travis Scott burger with shredded lettuce and white onion. These add a delicious freshness and crunch that go well with the melted cheese, salty bacon, and rich burger patty.
And don’t forget the pickles! These little slices of heaven are my favorite part of the burger because they add tanginess and the perfect hit of salt.
Easy Tips for the Best Travis Scott Burger
Make Big Burgers
When ground beef cooks, it releases moisture. And this makes the burger patty shrink.
So, when you shape a patty, make sure it’s a little bigger than the circumference of the bottom bun. That way, it will shrink to the right size when you cook it.
Plan Your Time
With this recipe, you’ll spend more time prepping ingredients than actually cooking them. So, plan your time carefully.
If you wash the lettuce and slice the onions first, everything will be ready to assemble by the time the burgers cook through.
Preheat the Skillet
Don’t put your burgers on a cold skillet! Make sure you preheat the pan before you place a patty in it.
That way, it’ll brown better. The outside will sear, and then it’s time for you to flip the patty and cook the other side.
Don’t Press Your Patties
Resist the temptation to press down on a patty with the spatula. If you do, you’ll squish the juice out of it, and the liquid will evaporate in the pan.
At the end, you’ll have a dry burger if you do this. So, let it be!
Toast the Buns
For extra flavor, toast your buns until golden brown. You can also spread some butter on them once they’re toasted for added richness.
Choose 20% Fat
This is the perfect amount of fat for a juicy, flavorful burger. While you can choose other types of ground beef, this is my favorite.

- Prepare the Veggies
First, wash and dry the lettuce. Then, slice the onion into thin rings.
Set both aside.
- Cook the Bacon
In your skillet, add a little cooking spray and turn the heat to medium. Then, fry the bacon strips until they’re crispy on both sides.
Remove them from the pan and place them on paper towels to drain. Set aside.
- Brown the Buns
Turn the heat for the skillet back to medium and place both halves of a burger bun into the pan. Toast the bread until it’s golden brown.
Then, take the bun off and spread butter on the toasted side. Repeat with the remaining buns, and set them all aside.
- Form the Patties
Add your ground chuck to the mixing bowl. Next, season the meat with salt and pepper.
Stir everything together, but be careful not to overmix the meat. That can make the juices come out, which will make your Travis Scott burgers dry.
Then, divide the meat into 4 portions. Form each portion into a patty that’s half an inch larger than the bun on all sides.
- Fry the Patties
Again, heat your skillet to medium and put the hamburger patties on it. Cook them for about 2-3 minutes, or until browned on the bottom.
Then, flip the patties and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side. Also, don’t press on the patties with the spatula.
- Stack Your Burgers
When the patties are done, build your burgers. Start with the bottom bun, then layer the ingredients in this order: 1 slice of cheese, hamburger patty, second slice of cheese, ketchup, mustard, cooked bacon, shredded lettuce, onion rings, and pickles.
Finally, add the top bun, and take a bite!
How to Serve the Travis Scott Burger
- McDonald’s served their Travis Scott burger as a meal combo with French fries, barbecue dipping sauce, and a Sprite. So, if you want an authentic experience, this is the way to go!
- But, this Travis Scott burger is delicious with lots of other sides! For instance, I love swapping onion rings or sweet potato fries for traditional French fries.
- Or, serve this burger with other deli sides, such as coleslaw, corn on the cob, or ina garten potato salad. As well, a vegetable salad will lighten up your meal.
Can You Make the Travis Scott Burger Ahead?
The short answer is “no.” Unfortunately, this is one of those recipes that needs to be made fresh.
This Travis Scott burger recipe has many different ingredients, and they all have different storage methods and shelf lives. Therefore, your burger won’t last very long once it’s assembled.
However, there are a few things you can do in advance to make cooking easier.
Make-Ahead Tips
First, you can cook the ground beef beforehand.
Pre-made patties will last for 2 days in the refrigerator. Or, you can keep them for up to 4 months in an airtight container in the freezer.
If you choose to freeze the patties, place a piece of wax paper or tin foil in between each one. That way, they won’t stick together.
The condiments for this Travis Scott burger recipe last the longest of any of the other ingredients. For example, ketchup, mustard, and pickles will last for a year at room temperature.
And if you put them in the refrigerator, they’ll last for an extra half a year.
A refrigerated, unopened package of bacon will last for about a week. But it will stay good for a month if you freeze it.
The amount of time the buns will last depends on the brand. Most packaged buns will last in the refrigerator or pantry for up to 2-3 weeks.
And while you can freeze them for up to 3 months, this can negatively affect the flavor and texture.
However, sometimes I will freeze the buns and burgers together, simply for convenience. To do that, place sheets of wax paper between the bun and the hamburger patty.
Then, put the burgers in sealed bags or airtight containers. And if you use a bag, try to get as much air out as possible when sealing it.
When you’re ready to enjoy your burgers, defrost them first, disassemble them, and then reheat the pieces in a 400-degree F oven.
